Scenery, Spoons and Socks

I have been learning some new skills, specifically spoon carving and sock knitting. I'm also working on the weaving projects that have been on my loom for some time. All of this has been very invigorating. I'm trying to learn to play the ukulele as well. Who says retirement is boring!

Ramblin' by the Roadside

I've been out painting along the byways of rural Wisconsin and enjoying the changing weather and Autumn color of the fields of Vernon County. The area is quite full of rolling hills and valleys, dips and

dives, with views in every direction and a peaceful sort of atmosphere that is pleasant while it lasts. (Next time out I'll place the road on the left hand side of the page just for a change.)

Creative Endeavors

My marks on the pages of my sketchbook/journal help me to become more aware of my surroundings; a visual diary and sequential record of days of my life. Sometimes I'm working from my car, an "onsite studio". Almost always these drawings are "drawn on location".

My knitting and my weaving are other ways for me to explore color and texture; to use my hands to create and build up. Again the choices are a sequential record. The inches, feet and yards of cloth become a "journal", similar to the way pages eventually make up a book. I prefer to weave the design as I go along rather than to have it all figured out ahead of time.
